Anthony, who has been a Registrar in Northumberland for 3 years; was married to partner Katie, at the beautiful Ellingham Hall, in front of 90 of their closest family and friends. They chose March to be wed as it was almost exactly a year since Anthony had proposed and they love Northumberland at that time of year. The couple are both big fans of Star Wars and used this as their theme throughout; from their cake and buttonholes to their decorations and favours!

Katie and Anthony began their search for their dream wedding venue by compiling a list of venues from that they liked the look of. When we asked them why they knew it had to be Northumberland, they said: “Northumberland has so many fantastic venues, catering to such a range of tastes and budgets. Our wedding said so much about us, individually and as a couple. Only in Northumberland could we find a venue to suit both our needs.”

The couple visited several venues that they both loved but still didn’t get ‘that’ feeling. However, that all changed when they visited Ellingham Hall. Anthony said When we drove out of the venue after that first visit, I looked at Katie and asked her what she thought…she burst into tears and so did I. That said it all.”

We asked the newlyweds what made Ellingham Hall, in particular, special and here is what they said: “It just fit. Wendy, the wedding co-ordinator, was lovely, welcoming and knowledgeable and we got the impression that nothing would be too much trouble for her. The place also seemed so relaxed – we’d have it to ourselves and having the venue for the whole weekend meant that we could have our families together under one roof and make our big day more of an extended weekend. The rooms themselves were individual and interesting – we spent ages exploring the bedrooms. The sitting rooms were classy and spacious and the ceremony room is stunning. Of course the games room, Treehouse and resident peacock were added bonuses! The staff are just incredible and Wendy the wedding co-ordinator really is a gem! During our time there, it was ours, part of our lives, and it always will be. “

Speaking to the happy couple about what they enjoyed most about their wedding day, they both said The ceremony itself was amazing. Our Registrar made our ceremony personal and fun and everyone commented what a fantastic job she did. The food was amazing, as was the service at Ellingham and our band and the magician were brilliant…all of our guests danced the night away after being amazed by the magic tricks”. Anthony said one of his favourite moments was seeing Katie walk down the aisle as she looked truly incredible.

Katie and Anthony were delighted with the personal and professional service from Northumberland Registrars and made the most of the ceremony with two quirky readings and their own heart-felt personal promises. Katie said: “The Registrars offered clear, personalised advice about what to include in our ceremony. The service was always about giving us exactly the day we wanted, but there was plenty of guidance and advice about possible or practical ways to implement our daft ideas. The process was very streamlined and not pressured – if we needed anything we just asked!”

One of the many highlights from the day was the couples first dance as Husband and Wife. They had choreographed a Charleston dance featuring lightsabers to the Cantina Band music from Star Wars. Not only did Anthony and Katie have a lot of fun practising, but it went down a treat with all of the guests and fit with the theme perfectly!

The happy couple had so much fun planning their wedding day and they even spent hours making their own table centerpieces which were, of course, Star Wars themed! They looked fantastic and got all of the guests talking. The centrepieces are now proudly on display in the couples home and will always remind them of their special day. Anthony and Katie used Wedding Fairs and Pintrest for inspiration but they both said that the main ideas came from their own imaginations as they wanted a truly unique wedding day.

We asked Katie and Anthony if they had any advice for other couples planning their special day and they said: Do exactly what you want and don’t be pressured by other people’s expectations. Surround yourself with people you love and who love you. They only want to see you happy. Do things yourself. We made our table centres, invitations, choreographed our dance, the Bridesmaids did their own make up, we catered the night before. It makes it personal, it’s fun and saves money for the important stuff…Good music, good food, good drink, good times. Most importantly, appreciate each other – it’s about you two. Take everything else away. Everything else is just window dressing. It’s your day, your future, your commitments. That is the only thing that really matters on the day.”
