Chris and Lauren were married at the breathtaking Doxford Barns in front of 70 of their closest family, friends and of course their two fur babies; Nellie and Chester. The couple chose Northumberland to be wed as they love the countryside and beaches, especially to walk their dogs. Northumberland has both on offer, so it really was the perfect choice.

Chris and Lauren have been together for 5 blissful years. The couple are a Tinder success story. Lauren was sceptical about meeting someone she had met on an online dating site, however after months of talking online she agreed to their first date. Neither of them were expecting much from the date but they hit it off and got on like a house on fire, so much so that when Lauren got home she said to her Mum, “I’m going to marry that man!”

Lauren and Chris began their search for their dream wedding venue by using the internet to search for “dog friendly wedding venues”.  When we asked the newlyweds what made Doxford Barns in particular special, they said: “We chose Doxford Barns because the first time we went we were absolutely wowed. I loved the light and airiness that the big glass windows gave off in the great barn. Another bonus was that you had the venue completely exclusive which meant nobody else would be getting married there on that day. The whole place is beautiful, it is a perfect mix of rustic and modern whilst feeling very romantic. The big bonus is that it is completely dog friendly! Our little pugs are so important to us and we wanted them to be at our wedding and Doxford Barns made this possible.“

Speaking to the happy couple about what they enjoyed most about their wedding day, they both said The whole day was absolutely amazing, having our family and friends in one room all together, full of pure happiness was just the most incredible feeling. From beginning to end we were both beaming. We had a live singer, magician, ice cream bike, live sax and a DJ so the day flowed with such ease. I always remember standing watching our fireworks near the end of the night thinking ‘this is it, we have done it.’ Looking back at our family and friends behind us watching the fireworks, surrounded by love, was one of the most amazing feelings in the world.”

Lauren and Chris were thrilled with the personal service from Northumberland Registrars and made the most of our services by personalising the ceremony with readings and promises. Lauren told us “My Auntie read a little poem during the ceremony. It meant so much to us to have her stand up and read it to everyone, she has been there for us through thick and thin so there was no better way to let her know how much we appreciate her. Our promises were chosen from the options provided, they felt so personal and suited us just perfectly. We both chose a different one which we thought described our love for each other down to a T.”

One of the best bits of the ceremony was when the couples two Pugs brought the wedding rings down the aisle.

This was a surprise for the guests and they were all laughing when the Registrar said she had two very special little guests to help. Coming down the aisle both Chester and Nellie kept trying to get to everybody, sniffing the candles and they were so intrigued to see what everything was, but Lauren and Chris just wanted them to get to the bottom with their rings! The newlyweds told us “We were so grateful to the Ceremony Co-ordination team and our Registrars on the day. They all did everything they could to ensure that it went smoothly with our dogs and we are so thankful for that. They can be pretty naughty, so it was a risk!”

Chris and Lauren  attended many wedding fairs and even found their perfect photographer at one of them. Lauren told us that Pintrest was her saviour when looking for wedding inspiration. “ I would sit for hours at night scrolling through ideas and saving them all to my board, one very special idea I got from Pinterest was ladders with our loved ones photos who sadly couldn’t be with us on the day. It meant so much to us both.”

We asked our happy couple  if they had any advice for other couples planning their special day and they said: Don’t stress about the little things. I was so focused on small stuff like tissues and little decorations and I didn’t even notice them on the day. We had quite a lot going on which I feel helped our day go so smoothly, there was constant entertainment, so guests never got bored. For some reason guests seem to get hungry during speeches, if you are doing favours maybe do something edible, I would have done that now had I known.”
