Northumberland Registration Service - Update Regarding Marriage and Civil Partnership Ceremonies
On 23 March 2020, the Prime Minister addressed the UK outlining the measures required to continue to manage the Coronavirus outbreak. The measures introduced by the government required people to stay at home except for very limited purposes, and this included stopping social events and gatherings such as weddings and civil partnerships.
As part of the easing of lockdown measures, the government announced on 23 June 2020, that wedding and civil partnerships would be able to recommence from 4 July 2020, with up to a maximum of 30 people in attendance. We advised you at the time that following this announcement, to better understand how ceremonies could be conducted in a Covid-19 safe manner, that the government would issue further guidance which would provide essential detail. The guidance, which sets out how weddings and civil partnerships can take place in a way that is safe and in line with social distancing guidelines was released on 29 June 2020 and is summarised as follows:
